Significance cardio vascular diseases 

The cardiovascular diseases are the cause number one for death cases of the population in Europe 0 they cause the death of more than 4.35 million of persons in the 52-member states in the European region of WHO and more than 1.9 million in the EU member states. The cause of death of more individuals compared to all oncologic diseases together and the percent is higher for women– 55% of all death cases, and 43% fro men, and even a higher percent among people with low social and economic status. They are the main factor for disability and reducing the quality of life in population. The frequency of the cardiovascular incidents with lethal or not result decreases in North, South and West Europe while in Central and East Europe there is a trend of increasing the cardiovascular diseases .

A number of CVD are classified as such because of significant social, economic and psychological public damages, their high share in the structure of causes for population death-rate, the weight of expenses for medical treatment and rehabilitation and the need of intervention of high qualified and specialised medical care. The following diseases fall in there: 

- ischemic cardiac disease;

- arterial hypertension;

- cerebrovascular disease

According to the data of National Statistical Institute in Bulgaria the diseases of the circulatory system are the leading cause for death rate on national scale, namely, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic cardiac disease, acute myocardial infarction.

 

The cardiology is a medical specialty with specific complexity and methodology whose aim is addressed to providing highly qualified diagnostics, predicting the disease course and applying high quality specific therapeutic treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases.

 

The activities of cardiology are related to the following:

·         research of cardiovascular diseases;

·         implementation of diagnostic procedures;

·         medication and intervention treatment;

·         prevention and rehabilitation of inborn and acquired cardiovascular diseases;

·         preparation of patients for heart surgery;

·         gaining command of specific medical issues connected to this state;

·         identifying and treatment of cardiovascular complications for patients with cardiac and other extracardiac diseases ;

·         expertise activities
